Allison Swank Owen is an award-winning filmmaker who works equally in the spheres of documentary, commercial and music video production.  

Her work explores human resilience by creating safe spaces to empower and uplift others.  As a filmmaker, she sees vulnerability as a way to transcend fear, share pain and collectively heal through storytelling.  Throughout Allison’s career she’s developed a flexible shooting style and contemporary visual edge that’s intimate, layered, sincere, and fresh, grounded in a passionate curiosity about the world past and present.    

Allison’s independent documentary Scum Boy gained her notoriety in METAL Magazine, PAPER and others, winning Best Documentary Short, at the IMDB Independent Shorts Awards in LA, and it was an Official Selection for Shorts On Tap, London, Hot Docs  as well as being invited to screen at AFI Docfest.

Allison divides her time between Johannesburg and New York and is represented at By Association in New York and Giant Films in Cape Town.

Allison Swank Owen is an award-winning filmmaker who works equally in the spheres of documentary, commercial and music video production.
